A B in My Bonnet.

I recently read a New York Times article, “Lauren Boebert Wants ‘Mercy.’ Some Republicans Want an Alternative.”

I had so many thoughts before I even opened the article. Sadly, I’ve found the NYT to be somewhat unreliable as of late. There seems to be an implicit bias in a good number of their articles, whether op-ed or not. That was the very first nugget that crept into my brain. That said, this was just your run of the mill political piece.

Secondly, Boebert is an absolute steaming pile of trash who offends me to my very core. In addition to being on the polar opposite side of the humanity spectrum from me (which would not immediately turn me off at all), she’s just repulsive. Truly. She makes ignorant and offensive statements on a regular basis that I would find troubling coming from an average citizen, let alone a member of our government. I’m hardly a tight ass, but she’s uncouth and crude and has no desire to uphold any of the decorum that I would like to see in a United States Representative. And yes, I’m aware that’s a more general problem as of late- I’m getting to that.

She is anti- LGBTQ+, racist, anti-gun legislation (in any form), and propagates demented conspiracy theory crap that I would expect out of a doomsday prepper living in the woods, not someone who takes a salary from taxpayers. The most offensive thing about her, however, might be how anti-women’s rights she is, and no, I’m not just talking about her pro-life stance. Sexist women in positions of power might scare me more than anything or anyone else. Truly.

When I heard about her stunt at the ‘Beetlejuice’ play in Denver, I was not even remotely surprised. Many of our representatives and senators (from both parties) are mired in hypocrisy and arrogance. They parade around like they are above the law and only feign apologies when they are caught and someone tries to hold them accountable.

If you didn’t hear about Ms. Boebert’s wild night out, let me fill you in a little. Admittedly, it’s hard to know where to begin. In summary, she was kicked out of the play (which is family friendly) for vaping, singing out loud, talking at an inappropriate volume, and fondling her date. For the record, Ms. B’s date was Quinn Gallagher, a Democrat (the horror) and part owner of the Hooch Craft Cocktail Bar in Aspen, Colorado, a LGBTQ+ friendly joint. Truly, like hosts drag shows kinda friendly. Of course, Queen B claimed she had no idea about these atrocities and broke up with Mr. G after they were unceremoniously removed from the play. What a fucking lying hypocrite…truly.

I’m not going to delve into the psychoanalysis required to understand why Mr. G wanted to go on a date with Rep. Boebert, but I’ll speculate that it’s because she’s pretty (on the outside, only) and maybe, he digs her wild vibes. Yes, Ms. Boebert pretends to be an uptight as shit family values princess, but her evening at ‘Beetlejuice’ seems to indicate otherwise.

Again, I don’t give a shit if she likes to smoke weed occasionally and date bad boys from the other side of the political tracks. I do care that she exhibited illegal and disrespectful behavior in public. I do care that she’s a liar and a raging hypocrite. I do care that she works to unwind the rights of women in this country. I do care that she makes homophobic, transphobic, and generally hateful and ignorant statements on social media (and via regular media). I care that she disrupts Congress with heckling. I care that she makes snide and thoughtless remarks after mass shootings in this country. I care that she responds to questions about immigration reform with vitriol and racism. I care that she’s everything I loathe about our current government. She criticizes rather than empowering. She evokes fear rather than providing comfort. She makes statements that are wildly untrue and when held to task, never apologizes, but makes excuses and holds the line.

Wow, I didn’t expect to go on this long about good ole’ B, but I suppose it was necessary. It IS necessary, for the next bit.

For that, we have to go back to the article. You can read it for yourself (https://www.nytimes.com/2023/11/04/us/politics/lauren-boebert-republican-colorado-primary.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare) but basically, the article describes how some Republicans can’t seem to move past her “Beetlejuice” incident. They are concerned about her character.

Yes.

I almost had a stroke when I read that, but I wanted to approach this whole business rationally and thoughtfully. You know, in a very un-Lauren Boebert kind of way. So, I looked up the proper definition of character. Yes, I know the definition of character, but still, I wanted to be certain. It turns out that it’s as I thought, character is “the mental or moral qualities distinctive to an individual” (Oxford Dictionary).

Okay. So, like the moral fibre of a human who tweets her Christmas card with her children holding rifles to support a fellow Representative, Massie, who was scrutinized for doing so within days of a mass shooting incident in Michigan. That? Or the mental fortitude of a human who pushes the QAnon agenda that claims millions of children across the U.S. are disappearing without a trace (supporting the grooming/Democratic child slavery insanity). Maybe that? Which part of her character was besmirched when she decided to act like a disrespectful loser at a play?

Believe it or not, that’s not even my issue. I know. Crazy, right?

Here it is: Representative Lauren Boebert is, in my humble opinion, undeserving of her seat in Congress. However, so are many, many others. And most of those others, many of whom are holding pitchforks and demanding a suitable replacement, are dirtbags in their own right.

Let me be 100% clear. I am not just talking about Republicans. Nope. I’m talking about Representatives and Senators from both parties who are unqualified and inappropriate for the positions they hold. Hypocritical, hateful, paid-off, windbags. People who lie and cheat and steal and hurt the people of this nation on a daily basis for their own gains.

I’d love to see her replaced. But, by whom? Who do they think has the appropriate character?

The pro-lifers who have paid for multiple abortions?

The burn-the-house down homophobes who are secretly gay?

Those pedaling stories about pedophilia when they themselves are being accused of such?

The drug addicts and alcoholics who condemn those who struggle with addiction?

The holier than thou lunatics who have made millions from the NRA and big pharma and who couldn’t make a truthful statement if their lives depended on it?

Who?

Here are my questions to her disappointed former fans: Did you really not see who Lauren Boebert is and has always been, or is it only now that there’s a spotlight on her vacuous and dangerous grandiosity that you purport to care? Also, would you hold a male counterpart accountable in the same way?

Methinks not.

If you’re concerned about character, let’s start with equality in accountability, okay?

Cool.
